Lee first started his solo act in 2003 when Shinhwa was on hiatus. He has since released three successful studio albums. As a solo artist, Lee changed his stage name to M. Aside from singing, Lee has also appeared in Korean television dramas and movies, with and without his bandmates. Throughout his career with Shinhwa, Lee has changed his looks along with his bandmates. From having a cute image in the early days and transitioning to various looks, Lee and his bandmates never lost their strong fanbase.
While dancing for his group, Dicky Ducky, as a student at JunJoo Fine Arts School for the Everland dancing competition, Lee was spotted by some SM Town members and became a part of the much known boy band, Shinhwa. Although he started out as a rapper and a singer, he stopped rapping as Shinhwa continued to release albums. When Shinhwa first came out, the fans (which later name themselves Shinhwa Changjo) quickly chose Lee as the cutest one in the group, with him garnering much attention. However, as time passed time, each of the members began gaining attention, with them having equal popularity as of today. As a skilled dancer, he has choreographed some of Shinhwa’s most technically challenging dances. He has released 9 albums (eight fullKorean albums and one Japanese album) with Shinhwa and is currently working on their ninth album.

Kim Dongwan’s parents had divorced and he had grown up without his father. Often been made fun of his family background by his school mates when he was young, Kim Dongwan remained strong, stood up against the negative comments and eventually became the support to his mother. Despite his less fortunate family background, Kim Dongwan had never given up on his dream. Kim Dongwan first appeared as an actor before he became part of Shinhwa. He had always been passionate about acting and was not interested in becoming a singer. He was talented scout on the streets by a SM Entertainment manager to join the company. He told SM Entertainment that he was more interested in acting than in singer but this decision changed after he met the rest of the Shinhwa members officially.
Kim Dongwan made his debut in 1998 as a vocalist in the boy band Shinhwa. Although he isn’t lead vocalist, he began singing bigger parts on Shinhwa’s 7th album, “Brand New”. One song from the album, “Liar”, actually only has Dongwan as the vocalist, along with Eric Mun as the rapper. He also wrote, composed, and arranged a song on the album, titled “Set Free”. Though he had branched out as a solo artist, he is part of Shinhwa and just released Shinhwa’s 9th album.
Dongwan released his debut solo album, ¡°Kimdongwan Is¡±, on July 5, 2007, which featured collaborations with his fellow Shinhwa members, including Andy rapping in the song “Loving Summer,” Shin Hyesung singing a duet with Dongwan in “The One Left Alone,” and Eric rapping in “My Love.” The other members have contributed to the album as well, with Lee Minwoo writing, composing and arranging the song “My Love,” and with Junjin helping him with choreography. Dongwan expressed gratitude for their contributions, saying, “I¡¯ve been working together with the group Shinhwa, thus there was a lot of pressure working on the solo album, but since the other members showed up and helped me with most of it, it has been a great big help for me.¡± Dongwan¡¯s first single was the ballad, “Handkerchief”, a song about a guy who consoles his girlfriend and wipes away her tears. Despite Shinhwa’s genre in music like American R&B and bubblegum pop, Dongwan said he wanted his album to be more Jpop influenced, having redone a song by Glay and Exile in the album.
For the debut album, Dongwan also lost a lot of weight, saying that “it’s not good for a ballad singer to have a muscular image. Someone singing ballads should have a lean, ‘hungry-looking’ image.¡± His album sold over 25,000 copies in two days with 41,490 copies sold by the end of 2007 allowing it to rank 19th for the year. In 2008, he released his 2nd solo album, The Secret; Between Us. The album featured collaborations with Tiffany of SNSD, Jade Valerie, Shinhwa bandmate, Eric and Heritage.
Dongwan officially began his military service on November 17, 2008.

Jun Jin literal meaning: “moving forward/advance”) is a member of the longest running Korean male group to date, Shinhwa (신화). He debuted as a dancer and rapper in Shinhwa in 1998 but started singing small parts in 2002; the release of Shinhwa’s 5th album. However, he is advancing in his own singing career with the release of his solo single album on November 18, 2006. Besides singing, he has also acted in several dramas and sitcoms.
Beginnings with Shinhwa
Backed by his high school friend, An Chil Hyun, Jun Jin was able to make it through the audition as a member for Shinhwa. He debuted with them as a rapper, alongside Eric Mun and Andy Lee. However, in the release of Shinhwa’s fifth album “Perfect Man,” he began singing small parts. He would still continue to sing small parts with the release of Shinhwa’s later albums until the band switched to a different label, Good Entertainment. Under Good Enter, Jun Jin advanced further, singing a solo song entitled “Painfully Loving You.” Jun Jin soon released a single, “Sarangee Ohji Anahyo” (Love Doesn’t Come), thus starting his solo career.
Establishing a Solo Career
Jun Jin released his first single in November 2006 titled “사랑이 오지 않아요” (translated to “Love Doesn’t Come”), with a total of five songs, including the title song and its instrumental. Surprisingly, he decided to go into ballad even though he is known for his strong dance skills. However, this is because ballads are popular in Korea right now; dance artists such as Baek Ji Young and even Jun Jin’s own group Shinhwa have released ballads for their lead singles as well. The single did fairly well on the chart, though not a major hit. In December 2006, Jun Jin was hospitalised; although recommended to stay in the hospital, he quickly left and returned to his promotional schedule.
In early January 2007, Jun Jin filmed a music video with Taiwanese singer Linda Liao. The music video was by the Korean group, The Name, titled “It Could Be Love.” He later recorded a duet with Lao, entitled “Forever” and also has a version in Mandarin. He later released a repackage version of “Love Doesn’t Come,” which included the duet with Lao. The repackage version fared better in sales, selling 44,724 at the end of 2007. In mid-2007, Jun Jin left his group’s management company and set up his own call JF Story Entertainment to concentrate on his solo career more.
His first full solo album was released on April 25, 2008. Titled New Decade, the first single from the album was “Wa”. The single encountered controversy when the music video was given a 19+ rating due to sexual content, in effect banning the video from major networks.
After going on a hitatus, he joined the cast of popular reality TV show We Got Married and was paired up with actress, Lee Shi Young. The couple was dubbed “Gundam Couple” due to Lee Shi Young’s obsession with Gundam.
He later released a mini album before starting mandatory military service titled “Fascination”. The title-track “Hey Ya” featuring Son Dam Bi and Big Tone did fairy well on the charts but a track on the mini album titled “Like A Fool” featuring his “wife” Lee Shi Young managed to fair better on the charts. The album was a mild success.
Acting career
Jun Jin starred in the hit 2004 KBS drama “Forbidden Love” in 2004, alongside popular actress Kim Tae Hee. He also starred in various other banjun dramas as well. In 2009, he and the other members of Infinite Challenge appeared in an episode of MBC drama Queen of Housewives.
Other activities
Jun Jin appeared the top-rating comic-variety programme Infinite Challenge firstly in April 2008 as a replacement of Haha, with receiving its host of the programme as ‘the 7th member’ officially in June 2008, and later he joined We Got Married in early 2009 with actress Lee Shi Young as his “wife”, whom he had a relationship with outside the show, though his act officially finished on May 3, 2009 due to its restructuring of the show’s format.

Nevertheless, he continue to stay within the management of H.O.T. and was even feature as a rapper on female group S.E.S.’s single I’m Your Girl along with Eric Mun (Mun would later join Lee in Shinhwa as lead rapper).

He later return for their fifth album, Perfect Man and has since then been with the group, releasing with them their later albums and singles.
In 2003, when the members of Shinhwa began doing solo activities, Lee surprised everyone by being an actor on various dramas, most notably the drama Lovers In Prague. Although he had a very minor role in the drama, it gained many viewers because of his role as a completely different, serious person. He began appearing in many banjun drama as well alongside former Fin.K.L member Lee Jin. The two acted together in numerous other banjun dramas as well as a couple for 6 months, longer than any other couple or actors/actresses did on the show segment for which they gained a lot of popularity due to their perfect match and chemistry. Lee was also an MC on SBS Inkigayo and MBC Goldfish, though in January 2007, he step down from being MC on both SBS Inkigayo and MBC Goldfish in a period of 3 days (SBS Inkigayo on January 28 & MBC Goldfish on January 31).
In 2007, Lee left his group’s management to set up his own company, ND (New Dream) Entertainment, concentrating on his solo career. As Shinhwa was on hiatus, Lee return to acting in September of 2007 to act as the lead role in a musical “Music In My Heart (Season 3)”, a type of project that none of the Shinhwa members have tried to pursue yet. After finishing performances for the musical, Lee released his very first digital single, titled “Irrelevant [or Extraordinary] Imagination” on November 30, 2007, a cover from the group Rollercoaster’s song. Due to the help of Park Jin Young (also known as JYP; CEO of JYP Entertainment) and Yoobin of Wonder Girls, Lee was able to have a successful single. Yoobin rapped while JYP wrote the lyrics for the rap part in the song. With the help, Lee was able to attract a lot of attention for the single. By releasing the digital single as well, Lee became the 5th member in Shinhwa to go solo behind Lee Min Woo, Shin Hye Sung, Jun Jin, and Kim Dong Wan, leaving only Eric Mun as the only member to have not yet pursue a solo singing career.
